Getting Started with Your Eye Exam

Managing eye disease starts with a comprehensive eye exam. We take the time to explain your diagnosis, discuss treatment options, and create a management plan that suits your needs.

Eye diseases can significantly impact your quality of life if not properly managed. That’s why we offer co-management services for various eye conditions, working closely with specialized ophthalmologists when necessary to provide seamless, coordinated care.

Common Eye Diseases & Conditions We Manage

Eye disease and other vision conditions can affect your eye health in different ways, and patient education is a big part of what we do at Goldsmith Eye Care.

By discussing and exploring different eye diseases and conditions with you, we can help you prepare for and detect some of the early warning signs. This can help you understand potential risk factors and the importance of regular eye exams

Our team at Goldsmith Eye Care is committed to protecting your long-term visual health.

Cataract Co-Management

Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, causing blurry vision, faded colors, and difficulty seeing at night. Cataract surgery is a safe and common procedure to replace the clouded lens with a clear artificial lens, restoring vision.

We co-manage your cataract surgery and are with you every step of the way through diagnosis, referral, and aftercare.

While cataracts are a natural part of aging, certain lifestyle factors like smoking and excessive sun exposure can increase the risk of developing them earlier.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, potentially leading to vision loss if left untreated. Consistent eye exams are important for early detection and management of glaucoma.

Treatment can often involve prescription eye drops to control eye pressure. High intraocular pressure (IOP) can be a risk factor for glaucoma.

Early detection is essential, as glaucoma can progress gradually without noticeable symptoms until later stages. There are different types of glaucoma, but most of them develop without noticeable symptoms and can lead to permanent vision loss if not caught and managed.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss in adults—AMD affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp central vision needed for tasks like reading, driving, and recognizing faces.

Early detection and treatment with medications or injections can help manage AMD and preserve vision. We recommend regular eye exams, especially for individuals with a family history of AMD or those over the age of 50.

Diabetes can damage blood vessels in the retina, leading to various vision problems, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema.

Eye exams are essential for people with diabetes to monitor their eye health and prevent vision loss. We work closely with your primary care physician to help with comprehensive diabetic care and managing your eye health in conjunction with your overall diabetes management plan.

Your eye health is our top priority. Whether you’re dealing with age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, or glaucoma, we are here to provide the care and support you need to help maintain your vision and quality of life.
